1st Refashion - Maternity

I am obessed with finding ideas and sewing tutorials on blogs!! I Love all the refashioning and repurposing that is being done. However, I really doubt my ability to come up with something and it be wearable and cute. But, I NEED summer maternity clothes and don't really want to spend a lot of money on clothes that I am only going to wear for another 3 1/2 months. SO, I am going to attempt to repurpose/refashion what I've got. Plus I will be a GREAT excuse for an even Bigger shopping spree after the baby come;)

I took a dress that I have had for over 2 years. I never wear it anymore but love the colors. One is biggest issue with Maternity garments is the lenght. Weather it be shirts or pants, it is really hard for me to find stuff long enough. (I'm 6'1) This dress was the perfect pick for my first refashion.

First, I determined the lenght I wanted, cut the lenght off and hemmed the bottom. Having a walking foot made this VERY easy. I did the rest by hand which I'm normally not a fan of but it was the best and really the only way to get the look I desired. I then took the fabric I trimmed from the bottom and used it to embellish the top. I cut 2 inch hearts and gathered each heart through the center. After each heart was done, I began to attach them to my attach them to the top. I used 3 to 4 stitches to attach each heart. I really like the way it turned out and I'm hooked. Every girl LOVES new clothes and who wouldn't love free new clothes?!?

(PLEASE pardon the big fat wrinkle from my lovely maternity jeans.)

Camera Case

When shopping for a new camera I also looked for a new case. Well, a solid color just wasn't going to work for me so, I found this great tutorial at amyalamode.com and "Tada".....my new Camera Case. The fabric came from my scrap drawer and the buttons are from the gallon Ziplock bag I was given by a sweet friend. The bias tape gave me fits on the bottom corners but, overall it was fairly easy to put together and I love it!!

Little Ruffle Dress

I am a big fan of patterns from HeidiandFinn!! I must say that this one is my Favorite!!! It was so easy and I love the way it turned out. The pattern even includes and great tutorial for making your own bias tape. It was really easy to follow and I didn't burn any fingers!!!

This last picture is the bow I make with some the left over material!!

Make it, Bake it, or Grow it!!!

My MOPs group has an on going fundraiser called "Make it, Bake it, or Grow it." Each meeting a certain table will bring items they either made, baked or grew and they are placed on a table where ladies can browse and bid. At the conclusion on the meeting whoever had the last bid(highest), gets the item. The money helps with expenses for crafts, giveaways and all the other fun things we do. Love the idea and have been dying to make something. Well, my chance has finally arrived!!! This week is our last meeting so anyone is welcome to bring something and this is what I "Made"

Finally....Easter!!!

I know, this is way over due...SORRY!!! My excuse is poor but will soon be no more. My camera is non-functioning but on Thrusday... a new one arrives!!

So, Here are a few pictures from Easter. I went with an eyelet for Klaira's dress. I had to add lining which I was a little unsure of. I thought the extra fabric would effect the twirl factor of the dress, but it didn't. I will make another dress using this pattern but will do two things different. First, the elastic for the back was TOO wide. This made it hard to attach the skirt to the bodice. It was an easy fix, I just trimmed the elastic but it was a little annonying. The biggest problem I has was the length of the material alloted for the ruffle. I was expecting the ruffle to be more full then it turned out. I fussed with it a lot and didn't have enough extra fabric to cut extra strips. I will be sure to cut an extra strip or two next time.

The tie for Joshua is from SeeKateSew. Great Tutorial!! It was SUPER easy and SO fun. He will be sporting a tie every Sunday from now!

P.S. New Camera= More post....Promise!! I have been sewing a lot:)
